Chitchat with a Creator: Alimo
Meet Alimo: an artist who best known for his curvy post-pop imagery, highly saturated colors, vibrant hand-drawn letters, and worlds inhabited by figures arranged on flat tonal surfaces.
Introducing Alimo
Alimo is best known for his curvy post-pop imagery, highly saturated colors, vibrant hand-drawn letters, and worlds inhabited by figures arranged on flat tonal surfaces. His line-work blends both drawing and design with inspiration from the ocean to the mountains focusing on people interacting with their everyday selves. The art can typically be seen on, prints, NFTs, murals, and merchandise. Alimo gets inspiration from the outdoors, snowboarding, surfing, exploring, photography, hanging with friends, and anything that provokes creativity.
How did you first hear about NFTs and begin your journey?
I first heard of NFTs years ago. My studio-mate was talking about it with me and I basically blew it off and generally didn’t understand it. A year later, he brought it up to me in Mexico City at a creative retreat me and friends do each year. He sat me down for a day and basically blew my mind on this technology. At that moment, it finally clicked. He gave me a bunch of resources and said, ‘just learn, don’t even think about minting a project, just learn.’ The next 6 months I just read and asked questions. The rest is history.
Can you provide an overview of your artist brand, Alimo, and how it represents your artistic journey?
I run an artist brand named Alimo. I am Alimo, and Alimo is me. I’ve been an artist for the past decade creating paintings, sustainable clothing, and commercial art, and now this new web3 space merging my art with technology.
Over the years I’ve started to bridge my e-commerce with token-gate technology, as well as infusing my fine art with the blockchain. I love it.
Each collection is pushing my creativity to the next level by telling a story based on experiences I’ve had during my life. Mostly focused on people and their everyday lives. This focus surrounds those subjects in nature, like the ocean or the mountains.
Name three of your favorite artists in the space.

Share the story behind your profile picture.
Great question. My profile picture is my logo. It’s a signature I created years ago and has developed into my logo that I use for everything. The logo represents me, the community that resonates with the outdoors, and a premium feeling that gives personality for folks that want to represent themselves with Alimo.
In one sentence, how would you describe the spirit of web3?
Inviting, competitive, mixed with a lot of discussions on how to push the boundaries both creatively and technologically.
Discuss a piece in your collection that holds special meaning to you.
All my pieces resonate with me in some way or another. It’s like a scrapbook photo album folks create throughout their lives. For me, each painting is a chapter in my life threw experiences I’ve encountered. It’s super fun for me to relive those moments each time I look at my work.
For some context, every piece I create has been pulled from my sketchbook. Similar to a diary of writings, my sketchbook is a library of moments from my upbringing, as well as travels from all over the world. They are all so special and when I create a full collection, that vulnerability to share with the world is a time piece of what I’ve seen through my lens.
Any tips for individuals who want to start collecting NFTs but haven't done so yet?
The first tip I ever got when joining the space was to simply listen, learn, and soak up the community. Really just be a spunge and be curious. Ask questions and read a lot. There’s so much to learn about the space and the technology (which is so exciting) and the first thing you want to do is either drop a NFT or buy an NFT.
When collecting, for me is going off a feeling. Do you like the art, does it resonate with you? Do you enjoy the artists as a whole, their story, and where they are going? There’s a lot of folks that are in it for the money, and realisitly that’s not a great reason. Invest in the artist by researching and getting to know them.
Traditionally, folks buy art to hang in their homes and to bring delight into their space. I would recommend this route and if you decided to sell (which is very welcoming), then maybe you can use those profits to help decorate your new web3 space in another light.
Lastly, have fun.
Apart from crypto-related topics, what else interests you?
Outside of the web3, my life is based around surfing and snowboarding. They are my favorite activities and a lifestyle I chose when I was a rugrat. There is not creativity for me without having these experiences outdoors and traveling. It’s a yin yan scenario for me. If I can’t create, then I need to go explore to spark ideas. When I have ideas, I’m in the studio creating.
On top of that, I love photography, hanging with friends & family, and generally being curious.
